MYTHS ABOUT EYELASH EXTENSIONS

Lash extensions are one of the most popular cosmetic treatments, giving you long, luxurious lashes without all the effort of applying layer after layer of mascara or making a mess with false lashes and glue. Many people love the fact that lash extensions are easy to care for and make your eyes pop. However, there are still some who are hesitant to give this seemingly miracle treatment a try due to some of the common myths floating around the internet. Luckily, in today’s post, we will discuss some of the most common myths about eyelash extensions so that you can make an informed decision.

MYTH #1: EYELASH EXTENSIONS DAMAGE YOUR NATURAL LASHES

This is the most common myth about eyelash extensions, and if you’ve looked into getting extensions in the past, you’ve likely seen photos of people who had a bad experience. While there are cases in which eyelash extensions damage the individual’s natural lashes, it all depends on how your lashes are applied. If your lashes are applied correctly by a trained technician who uses the right type of glue, your lash extensions shouldn’t damage your natural lashes.

MYTH #2: YOU CAN’T WASH YOUR FACE WITH LASH EXTENSIONS

Washing your face and caring for your skin is important for your hygiene, so it’s understandable that the myth that you can’t wash your face with lash extensions might scare some people away. However, it’s just that — a myth. In fact, you’re encouraged to wash your face not only to help prevent acne, but to also keep your lashes clean. That being said, your lash technician may advise you to avoid wetting your face for 24 to 36 hours after they are applied. This is because the adhesive used to apply your extensions needs time to dry and bond with your natural lashes. However, once that wait time has passed, you are free to wash your face as normal. If you’re worried about your lashes, check with your lash technician to make sure that your cleansing products won’t mess with your extensions, but if they give you the go-ahead, you should be just fine.

MYTH #3: YOU CAN TAKE OFF YOUR LASH EXTENSIONS YOURSELF

Unless you are a trained lash technician, you should never remove your eyelash extensions on your own, especially if you don’t want to damage your natural lashes. Eyelash extensions are attached to your natural lash using a special adhesive, and unlike fake, strip lashes, you can’t simply peel off your lash extensions when you get sick of them. It’s true, some of your lash extensions may fall out on their own with your natural lash as part of the eyelash growth cycle, but any lashes that remain should be removed by a trained professional so as not to damage the rest of your lashes.

MYTH #4: ALL LASH TECHNICIANS ARE THE SAME

If you’ve decided that you’re ready to try lash extensions, you may notice that there are many salons offering the service, and your first assumption may be that all lash technicians are the same. Unfortunately, this is false. While it is highly encouraged for lash technicians to take a course on how to properly apply lash extensions, it’s not required. As a result, many of the salons offering eyelash extensions don’t have a qualified technician apply the extensions, which is how some people end up with extensions that ruin their natural lashes.

MYTH #5: LASH EXTENSIONS HAVE TO BE EXTREME

At one point or another, you’ve probably seen someone with giant, fluffy, dramatic eyelash extensions, whether it was in person or online. For some people, the more dramatic the extensions, the better, but that isn’t the case for everyone. Most lash studios offer a few different eyelash extension packages, from more natural lashes to more dramatic lashes. We recommend choosing whatever package works best for you, and you always have the option to add more extensions the next time you go to the studio for a touch-up.
